Tampa Microwave Taking Orders for Ku band and Dual X/Ku Band Manpack SATCOM Terminals

TAMPA, Florida – August 10, 2011 – Tampa Microwave (TM), a veteran owned small business specializing in satellite communication systems, microwave modules, and communications test equipment announced the availability of the Ku band version of their Manpack SATCOM terminal family. The TM-Ku850MP complements TM’s existing X-band manpack terminal currently shipping and deployed in multiple overseas theatres of operation. TM’s manpack terminals feature an extraordinary level of integration and thermal management in a small (27 lb) package. Major system components have been modularized into field separable subsystems to simplify upgrades and logistics. The system architecture eliminates the need for forced air cooling further enhancing reliability. Packaging options include small backpacks, a single, commercial aircraft compliant overhead transit case and softside rollaboard luggage.     

Tampa Microwave manpack terminals can be configured for single, dual or tri-band operation at time of delivery or through field upgrades. Available options include:

• 45cm reflector and feed, X band, G/T = 8.4dB/K, EIRP = 41.8dB, 27lbs
• 65cm reflector and feed, X band, G/T = 11.4dB/K, EIRP = 44.8dB, 28lbs
• 65cm reflector and feed, Ku band, G/T = 14.2, dB/K, EIRP = 46.3dB, 28lbs
• 95cm reflector and feed (Jan 2012), Ku band, G/T = 17.1dB/K, EIRP = 49.3dB, 30lbs

Terminal operators can change frequency bands in the field without tools. The Receiver / Transmitter (R/T) separates from the modem by detaching four finger operable clasps. The second frequency R/T mates with the same modem by a blind mate connector assisted by guide pins. A camera style manual locking mechanism connects the antenna / feed assembly to the R/T. The 65cm reflector petals are common to X, Ku and Ka band terminals. Replacement of the feed and R/T assemblies enables dual or tri-band operation. A 65cm dual band solution (X and Ku band for example) weighs 38 lbs. The modem, tripod and power supply are common modules that function with all terminal variants simplifying sparing and logistics. A Ka band R/T and feed assembly will be available in early 2012 to support full spectrum, high bandwidth terminal connectivity.
